HEARTS OUT
It's been a good trip so far for Hearts in the UK. Not many newer Swedish bands have made the trip to the small island as often as this gang of boys. We caught them just as they were about to leave, again, this time supporting Andrew Cushin in London and Manchester.
London and then Manchester. They've been to both cities before, as musicians and as normal people. This time around might be the biggest to date, when they're supporting Andrew Cushin at Dingwalls in Camden and Manchester Academy up north. And oh, they're heading back, playing Y Not Festival in August.
– We can't wait to head back! We’ve always had a strong connection to the UK — seeing as Rob is british, and we're heavily inspired by their music scene. It honestly feels difficult to single out which gig will be the highligt. I suppose you will have to ask us again in August, says singer Jesper Jansson.
They're backed up by new music which makes the timing for this trip even better. The single "Get What You Want" is the first one from they're upcoming EP being released in September.
– With this track I feel like we're taking the music into new territory, blending a heavy beat with the indie rock sound that’s always defined us. It was loads of fun recording it, so we're happy that it's finally out for people to hear, says Jesper.
As mentioned, Hearts are taking more trips to the UK than any other new bands from the Swedish scene. And it's obviously a winning concept, considering they're playing bigger and bigger venues each time around.
– It definitely helps that Rob is british. When we first started putting ou t music we got in touch with some of his old conections from when he was still living over there and fortunately the songs resonated well with them. But I would still say it’s been a mix of hard work and having the right connections. We just keep showing up and giving everything we’ve got on stage, as well as trying and be as easy going as possible when dealing with promotors and staff. If people have a good time, they tend to invite you back, Jesper says.
If you're around, make sure to catch Hearts.
