BRINGING SUN TO HAMBURG
The four piece garage rock band SUNHILL are heading off to Reeperbahn this week. A street that for a long time has been considered one of the most important places for live music in Europe, nowadays culminating during the Reeperbahn Festival.
Originally from Öland, the band have known each other for most of their lives, eventually, or finally as we like to put it, ending up forming a band, with the original members remaining since day one. Even surviving living together for about three years. With a mixture of raw energy and danceable hooks, Sunhill smoothly moves between different styles.
– We like to keep it free when it comes to sub-genres, but we’ve always had a 'less is more' philosophy that has been the foundation for both our songs and live shows, and probably always will be. Musically, there's too many influences to mention, for all of us. But I guess the biggest inspiration behind all this would be the thought of ‘’I wanna create that feeling too’’ when a song hits a certain spot. And what genre or artist that’d then be, that changes daily, drummer Jack Petersson says.
The band have treated us with three new singles so far, each one quite different from each other in terms of mood. Something which will continue on upcoming tracks. All three singles were recorded on tape at Kungsten Studios with Tom Larson, which is a bit of a different recording technique than the band is used to.
– Tape gives a different feel, even though I don't know why, Jack says.
The focus for Sunhill is now playing shows, one of them being the upcoming Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg.
– We've heard a lot of great things about Hamburg, and Reeperbahn in particular. We're most looking forward to the show of course, but otherwise just seeing other bands and artists. I got some good recommendations on bars and restaurants as well from a friend of mine, Jack says.
Sunhill says it’s exciting to play for a crowd that might not have heard or seen the band before, adding that the best part is traveling to new places with some of your best friends. The lucky Reeperbahn audience will also get to experience three to four unreleased songs on the setlist. The next single is released on October 8th, Sunhill says
– It’s a special one for us, so I'm really looking forward to getting it out there. More singles to come, and more to be recorded. Then maybe throw in a show or ten? Jack says.
In Hamburg this week? Make sure to catch Sunhill on venue Häkken at 18.20 on Thursday, September 19.
