HEAT 'EM UP
The Family Men are gearing up for their next chapter abroad. With fresh songs in the works and a growing hunger to play outside of Sweden, the band is looking ahead to an exciting spring.
– I’m mostly looking forward to playing more abroad! says guitarist Vidar Nilsson.
The last couple of months has been an intense period for The Family Men with more and more shows coming in, along with writing new material and local Gothenburg concerts. But a tour was destined to come along sooner or later, and they now find themselves in an exciting place.
– It’s something we haven’t really done until now, and it’s going to be a blast. We’ve written quite a few new songs and will probably split the set about 50/50 between new and old stuff, which makes it more fun for us too, says Vidar.
Their sound has also taken a new direction. Originally rooted in more traditional guitar-driven rock, the band’s sonic identity began to shift after a drum machine accidentally made its way into a rehearsal. Probably a good thing, because it seems to be working.
– I don’t really know how to describe our sound, but it’s basically a mix of all our individual influences and the fact that someone happened to bring a drum machine to rehearsal. Then it just became what it is today. We used to play more traditional guitar rock, but our sound is also the result of being pretty tired of that whole thing and wanting to do something new with it.
The spring dates will take them to several cities and venues. But asking Vidar, one stop stands out a little extra.
– Wrexham! Super cool to play in Wales. I’ve always wanted to go there so it’ll be really fun. Hoping to see a lot of the plains! he says.
And what does the audience take home after a show with The Family Men? Good vibes and smiles, or something else? Vidar is straight forward.
– Hopefully a shirt and a record! he says.
And the million dollor question. When do we get to hear some new music? The answer is short, but promising.
– Soon! We’ve got some stuff in the works right now is about all I can say.
Here's what's up for the band in the coming weeks. And trust us, the summe looks good too.
