A COLOSSAL PERFORMANCE
Swedish music just refuses to stay put, and New York City is ones again just infront of all of us. Sunhill and Telos Vision are shipping straight to NYC to hit The New Colossus Festival, a prime spot for emerging artists to strut their stuff.
For Sunhill, originally from Öland (and the classic Swedish location of ”Rälla”) but now firmly planted in Gothenburg, this trip is a triple whammy of firsts—first time in the US, first time in New York, first time playing the festival. Easy to say it’s all about the big energy.
– None of us have ever set foot in the USA, let alone NYC, let alone this festival! So yeah, it’s a lot of firsts, and we are absolutely buzzing, says drummer Jack Petersson.
Telos Vision is just as hyped, which is easy to understand when you start digging into his musical inspiration.
– Feels great! So much of the music I love and get inspired by is American, so stepping into that scene, even just a little bit, is pretty special, Teodor Boogh says.
The festival is known for its indie-heavy lineup, so standing out in the crowd is no small feat. And the fact that the festival take place on The Lower East Side in Manhattan, doesn’t help in that sense either. The place is packed with talent.
– Sure, we’ve been influenced by a bunch of New York bands, but at the end of the day, our sound is still very much Swedish. No fireworks, no TED Talks, just the music. Our goal? Make the audience feel what we feel when we play, says Jack from Sunhill.
And Theodor adds;
– We know we’re a great band, so we’re just gonna do our thing. Confidence, preparation, and a little bit of magic. Also, we jam, a lot, and the musicians I play with are absolute beasts. We’ll make the most of that! he says.
Sunhill isn’t just bringing their live energy to NYC—they’re also dropping fresh tracks.
– We’re releasing our next single a week before the festival. When we get back, it’s straight back to work on new material and finishing up our album. Plan is to hit the studio before summer and record more bangers, Jack says.
And after the festival, will we see the gangs out on the streets? Depends on who you ask it seems.
– I went last year, so this time I’m just filling in the gaps. Also, pizza. Lots of pizza. And maybe some weird instruments, says Theodor.
For Sunhill it smells a bit different, and shopkeepers will be smart to show their signs when the band is walking by.
– Oh, we will absolutely fall for every classic tourist trap. That’s our biggest logistical nightmare right now, how to fit all our bucket list items into one trip. But apart from that, we’ll just roam the city and see where the vibe takes us, says Jack.
