INTO THE UNKNOWN

Klara Goliger is on her way to Aalborg to take part in Fallen Flags — an innovative project bringing together five forward-thinking musicians from Aalborg, Gothenburg, Bergen and Vilnius. Over three intensive days, the group will explore experimental soundscapes and genre-blending improvisations at KORMA in Aalborg, before taking their collaboration to the stage.

The band put together features Erik Lunde (trumpet, synths, Aalborg), Krzysztof Maciejko (double bass Aalborg), Klara Goliger (piano, synths, keys, Gothenburg), Daiyen Jone Castro (flutes, electronics, Bergen) and Viltė Gustytė (DIY instruments, radio, noise, Vilnius). Rooted in jazz, experimental and improvised music, Fallen Flags aims to get some lasting artistic connections between these musicians and creative cities while challenging conventions of how music is created and performed.
The group gathers in Aalborg on Monday, October 27, diving into rehearsals on Tuesday and Wednesday before traveling for their first live show same evening at Kupeen, Skørping on Wednesday night. Back to rehearsals on Thursday, leading up to a second concert at Huset i Hasserisgade, Aalborg on Thursday, before Klara heads back home to Gothenburg on Friday.

Before setting off, we asked Klara a few questions about the project and her expectations.

What are your thoughts going into the project?
– I think it’s gonna be exciting and I try to go there with an open mindset, not picturing what it’s gonna be like. I rather just go along with it.

Is there any way to prepare for something like this?
– Not really, the others seem to be great people and artists so I'm looking forward to meet them, and I think I will bring a couple of sound ideas in case of.

What drew you to get involved in Fallen Flags?
– I was initially interested because I really enjoy getting to know musicians from different places and in different genres, I've noticed that I always get so much inspiration from that. Also, the project is a big contrast to what I usually do and it feels like a great challenge that I will hopefully learn a lot from, it’s like I’m jumping into the unknown and that’s what’s exciting.

Fallen Flags is supported by KORMA/Huset i Hasserisgade and Music Cities Network.
